Passive House and me

Back in my second year of Architecture School I was introduced to environmental design. Even back then, I recognized the immense value of climate-responsive architecture. I was quite intrigued by sustainable design, and I kept pursuing it. My interest in sustainability eventually led me to the best sustainable building method out there: Passive House.

I designed my first Passive House multifamily building in 2016 while taking the certification course to become a Passive House Designer. The more I learned (both though the training and with the hands-on design work), the more I was impressed with the elegance, simplicity and clear methodology that goes into Passive House design. Since then, I have been an active advocate, public speaker and educator on Passive House.

I recently completed a Passive House retrofit on a townhouse my wife and I bought on a Greek island (seen at right), which was profiled in the New York Times. More info on the house and the design and construction process can be found here.

My firm, KWH Architecture, also has several active Passive House projects.
